Day 8 Alpana Station to Burra 337km 9 September 2018

We woke up to 2C this morning, bit chilly.  We were packed up and on the road before 8am

There were a lot of Kangaroos between Alpana & Hawker and a few Emus, lots of road kill, none by us fortunately.  The scenery on the drive was beautiful, a gorgeous part of the world.

After a few stops along the way we arrived in Burra around 1pm.  We have a nice spot on the Burra Creek in the Caravan Park.

After setting up we walked into town.  It is a lovely, well maintained town with lots of old building dating back to 1880.   Reminded us if Strathalbyn in SA.

There is an 11km tourist trail you can do here, after handing over your money $25 each at the tourist info centre, they give you a key that gets you into different places along the route and a map and a booklet.   We were advised that the Town Hall and Art Gallery were closing soon and would not be open Monday, so we headed over and had a quick look in both.  There was a good photography exhibition in the art gallery that I enjoyed.   A lot of these country towns we have visited now have cafes and galleries that would rival any in the city, gives you more to do when visiting and easy to spend your money, a win win for the town and tourists.

On the way back to the van we saw the  old Unicorn brewery which is on the trail, so we used our key to get inside.  It was a beautiful old stone building, but what impressed us the most were the underground tunnels and rooms.

Back at the van, I caught up on the weekend papers (was good having internet again so I could down load them). Looking forward to exploring some more of Burra tomorrow.
