Australia  The East Bit     Day 45 Byron Bay NSW 19 Aug 2016

This morning we explored the Byron Lighthouse area. We parked the car down near the Pass Café, paid for 2 ½ hrs parking and headed off along a coastal walk towards the lighthouse. It is such a beautiful walk. So many picturesque views down over the beaches, and rocky coast and views to the north all the way along Byron Bay Beach towards Kingscliff and Tweed Heads. Also saw the splash of 3 whales off in the distance.  The clear blue skies accentuated all the blues of the ocean, and the small surf was being enjoyed by lots of keen surfers.

The walk was a rough on Deb’s knee and she was very glad when we got to the Lighthouse and could give her legs a rest. There were so many people up at the Lighthouse, the most eastern landfall on mainland Australia. It was impossible to get a photo with the sign marking the spot. We didn’t do the Lighthouse tour, we have both been here before and just taking in the sights and beauty of the Cape were enough.

We walked back down to the Pass Café via the road, so much more gentle a walk and had lunch at the café. I scored well, somehow they made a mistake and made an extra coffee for me. We ate outside on the veranda and had visits from many of the local birdlife and the ever present Bush Turkeys. Lunch was tasty and very filling.

From there we drove through Byron village looking for a supermarket to do a bit of top up shopping, but didn’t see one, so we got what we needed down at Suffolk Beach and then had a lazy afternoon around the van. I was going to do a bit of beach fishing but the wind was up and the tide was out, so I gave that a miss in favour of doing nothing. 🙂
